Kitchen Display System (KDS) setup and station workflow guide
Configure your kitchen display screens, organize station routing (grill, fryer, pantry), and manage digital order tickets from receipt to fulfillment.
Prerequisites & Requirements
- Any tablet, computer screen, or smart TV with a modern web browser
- Stable Wi-Fi connection in the kitchen area
- KDS account credentials from the admin console
Overview
The Scaneet Kitchen Display System (KDS) replaces messy paper order chits with real-time, interactive digital tickets. Orders from QR codes, waitstaff tablets, and POS terminals sync instantaneously.
Step 1: Device Selection and Mounting
The Scaneet KDS runs on any device that supports a modern web browser:
- Tablets: Android tablets (10"+ recommended) or iPads in waterproof kitchen enclosures.
- Monitors / Smart TVs: Commercial displays connected via HDMI to a mini-PC or smart TV browser.
- Touch or Bump Bar: Staff can tap tickets directly on touch screens or use a keyboard/mouse.
Step 2: Launching the Kitchen Terminal
- On your kitchen screen, open the browser and navigate to kitchen.scaneet.com.
- Sign in with your kitchen terminal PIN or operator credentials.
- Select the station view:
- All Stations (Master View): Shows all tickets across the kitchen.
- Station Filter: Shows only items assigned to Grill, Fryer, Appetizer, or Beverage prep lines.
Step 3: Ticket Workflow & Statuses
When a customer or cashier submits an order:
- New Order (Yellow): A chime sounds, and the order card appears with ticket number, table number, item modifiers, and elapsed timer.
- Preparing (Blue): Kitchen staff tap the ticket to acknowledge preparation. The status updates across the cashier POS and waiter screens.
- Ready to Serve (Green): When food is plated, staff tap Ready. Food runners receive an alert to pick up from the kitchen pass.
- Completed (Cleared): Once delivered, the ticket is bumped from the active screen into the completed log.
Step 4: Timer & Rush Alerts
Tickets show an active timer indicating minutes elapsed since the order was placed:
- 0–10 mins: Standard green/neutral indicator.
- 10–20 mins: Caution indicator for items nearing standard prep limits.
- 20+ mins: Flashing warning alert to prioritize delayed orders.
Troubleshooting
- Audio chime not sounding: Click anywhere on the screen once after launching the browser to enable browser audio permissions.
- Offline banner appears: Check kitchen Wi-Fi signal. If connectivity drops, existing tickets remain cached on screen until reconnecting.
